Cheap Activities
Bonaire On A Shoestring
Looking for something to keep you occupied while you’re not diving?
If you visit Bonaire you'll find there are many activities to keep you busy that require little or no money.
Sorobon Beach
Go to Lac Cai and check out Sorobon beach, one of Bonaire's best sandy
beaches
. Grab a lounge chair on the waterfront, and with frosty beverage in hand, watch the progress of the novice windsurfers, and the skill of the pros as they skip over the waves at top speed. Stop by the barefoot massage hut for a cheap massage and sea salt scrub.
Atlantis Beach
You can spend the entire day at Atlantis beach and be blown away with the amount of action in the sky. The kite-boarders display a colorful collage of kites while performing flying maneuvers at extreme speeds. This is also a great place to enjoy some snorkeling on the colorful reef. If you’re lucky, you might see a turtle or two! The sun sets on this part of the south island, and you may be fortunate enough to spot the flamingos in the distance flying in a V pattern to or from Venezuela.
Washington Slagbaai Park
Head up to the north end of the island to
Washington Slagbaai national park
, pay the minimal park fee ($6.00), and hike among the cacti, iguana, wild goat and other protected wildlife. Then hit up the beach at Playa Funchi, Bise Morto, Wayaka or/and Boka Slagbaai for some snorkeling. In Boka Slagbaai there is a really old historic harbour with buildings dating back to 1868 that are quite interesting. There is also a salina Gotomeer nearby, where flamingos are often spotted.
Donkey Safari
Head south of the airport (about ten minutes from Kralendijk) to find the donkey sanctuary, home to over 300 very friendly donkeys that have been rescued after being sick, wounded or orphaned. You can drive out into their habitat and go on a Donkey Safari. The
Donkey Safari
is a blast! Bring your cameras, this is an experience you'll want to capture. You drive your car through the sanctuary for a meet and greet with the herds. These happy-go-lucky furry friendlies will surround your vehicle and stick their heads right into your truck looking for a scrumptious snack. You did remember to bring snacks right? The cost is $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children.
Rincon Historic Tour and Saturday market
Rincon
is the oldest town on Bonaire and rich with history. Most of the residents are relatives of the slaves who once occupied the slave huts seen in the south east end of the island. There are some Historic buildings of interest and authentic Bonaire restaurants. On Saturdays there is a local market worth planning your trip around.
