If You Want Adventure, Check Out The Bonaire Mangroves Kayaking Tour
The Bonaire mangroves tour is a mysterious yet leisurely experience you don't want to miss. There is something magical about silently guiding your kayak through a maze of narrow tunnels. At some points the puzzle of mangroves is so thick you can no longer paddle. You have to grab branches to move yourself along while the birds merrily sing the soundtrack to your adventure.
Much of Bonaire has benefitted from the island’s concerted effort to preserve it’s ecology, and the mangrove forest here is no exception; it’s one of the best preserved in the Caribbean. Many fish species use the mangrove's complex root system as a nursery to raise their young. These are the stompin’ grounds for all the fish babies of Bonaire’s reefs, and what better way is there to see these cuties then by kayaking deep inside the mangrove forest and snorkeling with them.
There are shorter 1 hour tours, but I highly recommend the 2 hour guide with snorkeling. It's one of the highlights of this tour.
The Mangrove Info Center is located by Sorobon beach in Lac Cai. If you make a reservation they will pick you up and drop you off anywhere in Bonaire. Otherwise, it's an easy place to find by car, as from Lac Cai there are plenty of signs to guide you.
The 2-hour kayaking tour (including snorkeling) departs daily at 8:30am as well as Tuesdays and Fridays at 2:30pm. The cost for this tour is $42.50.
The 1-hour kayaking tour departs daily at 11:00am. The cost for this tour is $25.00.
They also offer a 1-hour solar boat tour at 9:30am. The cost of this tour is $25.00, and advanced reservations are required.
Night time solar boat tours are not offered for obvious reasons.
Reservations for any of the above tours can be made at www.mangrovecenter.com
