Bonaire Family Vacations Activities

Families love Bonaire Vacations mainly because of the rich ecological environment and laid back atmosphere that is hard to find on any other Caribbean island. There are petting zoos, donkey safaris, kids clubs, great food, and a variety of water sports all wrapped up in an inexpensive island.

Here are a few activities to keep the children occupied and parents relaxed.

Build Sandcastles on the beach

Kids and adults alike love the beach. They love to build sculptures in the sand, play in the surf and maybe even find forgotten pirate treasures. Bonaire doesn't have many sandy beaches, but the few that you do find won't be crowded.

Two favorite beaches :

No Name beach on Klien Bonaire (little Bonaire).

You need to take the 10 minute water taxi to get to this beach but it's well worth the adventure. Make sure you bring your own refreshments, sunscreen, shade and also snorkel gear. There is great snorkeling right from the beach.

Sorobon Beach in Lac Cai.

This is the windsurfing area of Bonaire. The whole lagoon is waste deep, sandy and doesn't have any surf. It's the perfect beach for young ones learning to swim. They have two beach huts for your refreshment needs.

Visit the Donkey Sanctuary and take the Donkey Safari

This will be the highlight of every child’s trip to Bonaire and presents great photo opportunities. The Donkeys have been brought to the shelter for their safety and now spend their days coaxing food from visitors. These loveable creatures will make a friend out of you in no time. Make sure you bring your left over bread, fruit and vegetables.

Take a Glass Bottom Boat tour

Show your kids the underwater world that Bonaire is famous for. These tours are fun and educational. It's a great way for youngsters to see the magnificent reefs without ever having to get wet.

Go Landsailing

If your children are over the age of eight, then this experience is not to be missed. Landsailing is completely safe, easy to learn and the most fun parents and kids will have...ever!

Check out Bonaire Animal Friends (petting zoo)

There are over 200 animals on the farm to visit. Bonaire Animal Friends is a hands-on experience.

Snorkel with the Turtles

Who doesn't love turtles? Bonaire is home to nesting grounds of the Hawksbill and Green Turtles (Leatherbacks have nested on occasion). There are always turtles around the island and guides know just where to find them. Hire one in town, or book a snorkeling cruise for a chance to catch a glimpse of these ancient creatures.

Bonaire Bowling

Try Bonaire Bowling for a great way to unwind from the days events and share some family entertainment. There is a kitchen that offers burgers, snacks and full meals.

Visit the Butterfly Gardens

Half the fun is getting there! You travel along a bumpy dirt road beside the mangrove forest for about fifteen minutes. This is agreat place to see butterflies and encourage rainforest habitats in developing countries.
