Bonaire Dive Sites Southwest

On Bonaire dive sites in the southwest you will find the unique double reef system as well as Bonaire's most dived wreck - the Hilma Hooker. Most of these sites are appropriate for beginners as well.


Bonaire lizard fish spotted diving (#33) Town Pier

Unfortunately closed right now. You need permission and a dive guide for this site, Town Pier, but it's worth it. This is the one of the best Bonaire dive sites for photography. There are a great variety of sponges. All the polyps open up at night making night the best time to dive here.

Calabas Reef is Divi Flamingo's house reef. The fish here are super friendly. There is a fishing boat wreck at 70 ft. off the Flamingo side of the reef. Look for Large baracuda, squid, cleaner shrimp, nudibranchs, morays and seahorses. Another one of the great Bonaire dive sites for night diving.

18th Palm is the Plaza resort's house reef. You can access this site from the sandy beach as the pier is for the guests only. This site can get pretty busy due to diving schools and tours. Brain coral in Bonaire (#36) Windsock

Windsock is a popular site and a popular beach. It's located at the Flamingo runway. Super easy for beginners. Elk and deer corals in the shallows. Look for baracudas, jacks and huge snapper. An easy night dive. A great place for picnics.

The Hilma Hooker wreck dive in Bonaire

Bonaire's most dived wreck the 236 ft. Hilma Hooker. This freighter was stripped down and sunk in 1984. The stern lies in 66 ft., the mast in 99 ft. and the bow in 80 ft. Get here early as it gets busy with dive boats. The Hilma Hooker is also a great night dive. The shallows have plenty of fish to watch for while navigating the five minute swim from shore.

Has the double reef system in relatively shallow waters. Entry and exit can be a bit tricky due to the coral rubble. Look for angel fish, sting rays, eels nudibranchs and queen conch between the reefs.

You need permission and a dive master to take you on this dive as it's an active pier. This dive is a great fun maze through the pilliars. Best time to go is in the afternoon for photographing the pilliars with the sunlight.

It's a long swim out. This reef has the double reef system with the 2nd reef in 60ft. Look for eagle rays and garden eels between the reefs.
