Bonaire Dive Sites Southwest
On Bonaire dive sites in the southwest you will find the unique double reef system as well as Bonaire's most dived
wreck
- the Hilma Hooker. Most of these sites are appropriate for beginners as well.
(#33) Town Pier
9-30 ft. (3-10m) No Hazards
Novice Shore/Boat
Unfortunately closed right now. You need permission and a dive guide for this site, Town Pier, but it's worth it. This is the one of the best Bonaire dive sites for photography. There are a great variety of sponges. All the polyps open up at night making night the best time to dive here.

20-100 ft. (6-30m) No Hazards

Calabas Reef is Divi Flamingo's
house reef.
The fish here are super friendly. There is a
fishing boat wreck
at 70 ft. off the Flamingo side of the reef. Look for Large baracuda, squid, cleaner shrimp, nudibranchs, morays and seahorses. Another one of the great Bonaire dive sites for night diving.

40-80 ft. (6-25m) No Hazards

18th Palm is the Plaza resort's
house reef.
You can access this site from the sandy beach as the pier is for the guests only. This site can get pretty busy due to diving schools and tours. There is a lot of great mini life here.

12-100 ft. (3-32) No Hazards
Novice Shore/ Boat
Windsock is a popular site and a popular beach. It's located at the Flamingo runway. Super easy for beginners. Elk and deer corals in the shallows. Look for baracudas, jacks and huge snapper. An easy night dive. A great place for picnics.

Novice Shore/ Boat
An easy relaxing beginner dive. Large schools of blue Tangs. A comfortable one of Bonaire dive sites.
(#38) Bachelor's Beach 30-100 ft. (9-30m) No Hazards Novice Shore/ Boat An easy beginner dive with easy access. Look for turtles and rays.
(#39) Chez Hines 17-100 ft. (5-32m) Currents Intermediate Shore/ Boat Look for garden eels, sting rays, nurse sharks, tiger groupers and queen conch.
(#40) Lighthouse Point 30-100 ft. (9-30m) Current Intermediate/Advance Shore/Boat Enter next to Lighthous beach. Careful of your navigation as there is a current here and this site is the island point. Has a slight slope in sand. Look for garden eels and rays.
(#41) Punt- Vierkant 25-100 ft. (8-30m) Current Intermediate Boat This is the beginning of the double reef system. Look for garden eels and squid.
(#42) The Lake 25-100 ft. (8-30m) Watch out for Urchin Novice Shore/ Boat Has the double reef system. Watch for cleaning stations, garden eels between reefs, eagle rays and sea horses. The outer reef has the most life.
(#43) Hilma Hooker
25-100 ft. (9-30m) No Hazards
Novice Shore/ Boat
Bonaire's most dived
wreck
the 236 ft. Hilma Hooker. This freighter was stripped down and sunk in 1984. The stern lies in 66 ft., the mast in 99 ft. and the bow in 80 ft. Get here early as it gets busy with dive boats. The Hilma Hooker is also a great night dive. The shallows have plenty of fish to watch for while navigating the five minute swim from shore.
(#44) Angel City40-100 ft. (9-30m) No Hazards Novice Shore/ Boat Has the double reef system in relatively shallow waters. Entry and exit can be a bit tricky due to the coral rubble. Look for angel fish, sting rays, eels nudibranchs and queen conch between the reefs.
(#45) Alice In Wonderland 30-100 ft. (9-30m) No Hazards Intermediate Shore/ Boat Has the double reef system. Look for tiger groupers, cleaning stations, garden eels between the two reefs and giant baracuda on the outsid of the second reef.
(#46) Aquarius 30-100 ft. (9-30m) No Hazards Novice Shore Easy entry. Look for eels on the sandy bottom.
(#47) Larry's Lair30-100 ft. (9-30m) No Hazards Novice Shore If there is rougher waters then the visibility here will be less than other sites due to the sandy bottom. Look for eagle rays, turtles, squid and frogfish.
(#48) Jeannies's Glory 30-100 ft. (9-30m) No Hazards Novice Shore/ Boat Has the double reef system. Look for cleaning stations, schools of surgeon fish and blue tangs.
(#49) Salt Pier14-60 ft. (4-18m) No Hazards Novice Shore You need permission and a dive master to take you on this dive as it's an active pier. This dive is a great fun maze through the pilliars. Best time to go is in the afternoon for photographing the pilliars with the sunlight.
(#50) Salt City 20-60 ft. (6- 18m) No Hazards Novice Shore/ Boat It's a long swim out. This reef has the double reef system with the 2nd reef in 60ft. Look for eagle rays and garden eels between the reefs.
