Bonaire Dive Sites Northwest

These Bonaire dive sites are on the protected side of the island. They offer some great diving for all levels to enjoy. There's wall dives, the famous town pier, a sunken tug boat and a fishing boat in 40 ft. of water. This area is close to the house reefs of Captain Don's Habitat and Buddy Dive resorts which makes for comfortable night diving. These Bonaire dives sites will give beginners the experience and confidence needed for the best enjoyment in scuba diving.

There are actually only 64 steps. At the 1000 Steps reef even the mooring bouy has large tube star pagododas. It's full of life. Look for whale sharks, hawksbill turtles, filefish and triggerfish. Three reef sharks were spotted here recently.

Webers Joy site has easy entry. This is one of many Bonaire dive sites that you will siee the purple tipped sea anemones with elkhorn and staghorn corals. Look for porcupine fish and Octopus.

(#18) Jeff Davis Memorial

The Jeff Davis Memorial site has some nice sea fans. Look for turtle, squid,squirrel fish, cleaning stations and seahorses in the gorgonians.

Kallis Reef is a recent addition to Bonaire dive sites. Very few people dive here. The reef is in great condition. Look for turtles and seahorses.

There is a four foot jump to enter and a steel ladder to exit.There are small caves in the shallows. Look for large schools of baracuda, turtels and sea horses hiding in the gorgonians.

Barcadera is one of Bonaire dive sites that requires a giant leap entry. It's located just north of pink house. There is nice brain coral with plenty of cleaning stations. It's a great way to view natural behavior. Look for large schools of wrasse.

A great beginner site. The shallows have stands of pilliar coral. Look for turtles and seahorses.

Black Durgon house reef. Shore divers need their permission. Wall leads to a cave at 60 ft. that is home to a sleeping nurse shark. Look for lettuce slugs and cleaner shrimp on corkscrew sea anemones, octopus, christmas tree worms and bristle stars.

This site is directly in front of the Hamlet Villas. Probably the easiest entry on the island. This is the site of Captain Don's underwater memorial of the "divers who have gone before us." Marked by a plaque and a dive flag.

Captain Don's Habitat house reef. It's named after an upside down fishing boat wreck in 40ft. of water. The boat hosts a huge green moray eel. This site is easily navigated. There is a line going straight out. Makes a great night dive and is well light.

This was a site of an algae experiment. This site is in the middle of Buddy's Reef and La Machaca. It's an easy swim out to either one. This is a great easy night dive.

Buddy's house reef. Be very careful about the boat traffic here there have been lots of complaints. Otherwise a great dive. An easy night dive with a friendly tarpon.

Sandollar house reef. The most diverse reef for fish species compared to any reef in the Caribbean. 317 fish species have been documented on this reef alone.

Close to Den Lamen Apartments on Eden Beach. This is a simple dive. There's an old tugboat wreck in 80' of water. Follow the old anchor chain to the wreck. Inside the tug has schools of big-toothed Cardinal fish.

Something Special doesn't have much coral at the start of this dive but a lot of fish. Garden eels at 55ft. This one of the favorite Bonaire dive sites for reef diversity. The current brings in a lot of life and keeps the reef healthy.
