Bonaire Attractions
For such a small island Bonaire is filled with plenty of surprises. There are a lot of things to do and see in Bonaire when you're not exploring the depths of the sea.
Washington Slagbaai Park
Washington Slagbaai Park
in Bonaire is worthy of a truck rental. Of course the park hosts several great dive and snorkeling sites, but there's much more to experience here. Upon entering the park you'll be immersed in the desert-like conditions of undeveloped land waiting to be explored.
Kralendijk
On the colorful main drag of
Kralendijk
you can walk up one side of the street and down the other in less than half and hour. There's a mixture of Dutch, English, Spanish and Papiamentu spoken on the streets. Kralendijk has a bouquet of pharmacies, banks, surf/resort apparel and restaurants in stucco buildings featuring all the shades in the cup-cake rainbow, without the sprinkles.
Sorobon Beach
Sorobon Beach in Lac Cai has the best and one of the only sandy
beaches
on Bonaire. Spectators can hangout and watch the spectacular freestyle windsurfing that goes on daily by the local champs practicing
Salt Mines
Judging by the mountains of salt, Cargill Salt Company has a lot of success making salt. You can't miss the sparkling white hills as you drive south along the west coast. No trip to Bonaire is complete without a few pictures taken of these saline summits of splendor.
Klein Bonaire
Just a quick boat taxi ride and you are on the uninhibited island of Klein Bonaire. There is a long white
sandy beach,
called No Name beach, that is a reminder of what Caribbean beaches were like 20 years ago. No Name beach is also a popular snorkel site. There are numerous dive sites surrounding this island.
Rincon
The heart of Bonaire's culture, tradition and history beats in the town of
Rincon.
While it's a relatively quiet town there is great local food. The last Saturday of the month is the best time to go for their market.
